One of the oldest pubs in London, dating back to 1538, with a rich history and an impressive list of past visitors, including Charles Dickens, Mark Twain, Arthur Conan Doyle and Winston Churchill. The wine list is simple and affordable, with a solid selection of beers. The food is classic British pub fare. We ordered a few starters- there were some nuances, for example, the prawns were slightly overcooked, which affected their texture.Overall, this is not a place for fine dining, but a historic landmark worth visiting for its atmosphere: cosy, intimate, with a working fireplace and a strong sense of the past. I’m glad I visited, but I’d come back for the ambience rather than the food.
