We were on a mission to find great pasta, and “Santo Mare” in Marylebone seemed like the perfect choice. This restaurant, with locations in New York and Porto Cervo, boasts an elegant mix of nautical and vintage style, featuring a seafood bar at its center, where fresh fish and shellfish are displayed on ice. Recommended dishes: - “Wild seabass carpaccio” – delicate, thin slices of raw seabass and oysters to start. For the main courses: - “Gnocchi with red shrimps, cherry tomatoes, and pecorino cheese” – gnocchi served with red shrimp, a delicate tomato sauce, and pecorino cheese on the side. The shrimp are tender, though not overly abundant, and the dish has a slightly spicy, well-balanced flavor—definitely worth trying! - “Tagliatelle Gragnano with Mediterranean lobster” – a generous portion of tagliatelle with lobster in a rich, spiced tomato sauce. The dish is topped with half a lobster, with additional meat hidden under the shell. For our little guest, we ordered from the hot starters menu: - “Seabass balls”– seabass fish balls with a smoky touch. As a side, we were recommended fried potatoes, which instantly brought back childhood nostalgia for those times we asked our parents to “make crisps.” The fish cakes may not be for everyone—first, due to their texture, which includes noticeable chunks of fish, and second, because of their rather bold flavor. If unsure, this might be a dish to skip. Overall, I can recommend visiting this restaurant.
