Modern British cuisine with French and New York influences served in underground former bank vaults.
Write reviewA great spot to stop for lunch or dinner in Cardiff - “The Potted Pig.”As soon as you walk in, you head downstairs into a cosy dining room set in a former underground bank vault. Dim lighting and charming ceiling lamps create a really nice atmosphere. When I mentioned I wanted to try something traditional from Welsh cuisine, I was recommended:– Welsh rarebit, a toast topped with Cheddar, small cockles, and pieces of pork belly. An unusual twist on a classic, but absolutely delicious.– Tender lamb shoulder - slow-cooked for 8 hours, rolled and served with pommes Anna (layered potatoes with a crispy top), broccoli, and greens. The lamb was incredibly tender.Desserts: a slightly sticky carrot cake with raspberry jam and ice cream, and a classic sticky toffee pudding - both worth ordering.I found the à la carte menu more interesting than the lunch set menu, so I’d recommend going for that.Service didn’t just meet the Michelin Selected level - it felt closer to a Michelin star standard. The team clearly puts in a lot of effort. The only downside: the restrooms could definitely use some attention. Fix that, and they could seriously consider aiming higher.
